Dr
Sandra Reeve - Professional Profile
Move
into Life is the current synthesis of my work with movement, culture
and the environment. This programme reflects my passion for movement
as an artist, a teacher, a therapist and a director. Movement is
my main source of creativity and my guide to health.
I have recently completed a PhD in Performance Practice at the University of Exeter. This has extended my practice as a performer, teacher and director. My PhD thesis, entitled The Ecological Body, is not yet available electronically, but some of its central ideas can be read/watched/seen here.
I
met Suprapto Suryodarmo, Javanese movement artist and teacher in
1988, and studied with him for ten years (1988-1998). I spent three
years living in Java and working in different cultures, landscapes
and religious sites in Java, Australia, the USA and Europe. My work
in Java introduced me to environmental movement practice and deepened
my interest in movement as a key aspect of inter-cultural dialogue.
I offer workshops in Cultural Movement.
My
parallel interest in the relationship of movement to health led
me to qualify as a Shiatsu practitioner in 1987. I now practice
in Somerset and West Dorset. In 2001, I qualified as a Senior Registered
Dance Movement Therapist, enabling me to apply my skills to different
client groups, particularly children. I offer individual movement
therapy and supervision for arts therapists who are interested in
movement-based practice.
