Dorset:

Spring/Summer Workshop calendar - pdf

Module 3 Journey: Valley to Rock to Sea - Environmental Movement
May15/16/17, 2010
Location: Isle of Purbeck nr. Swanage, Dorset
Cost: £155

What happens when you move - and pay attention to your movement - outside: by a stream, on a grassy clifftop, on broad, flat rocks by the sea? How does your movement vocabulary change when you go from a room to the cliffs, rocks and shore - when the sky becomes your ceiling and the horizon your wall?

Come and explore, through movement, questions like:

  • what happens if you let sounds guide your movement?
  • how do your rhythms & movement patterns change outside?
  • where do you feel connected with your environment and when do you feel adrift?
  • when do you find balance and when do you seek disruption?
  • what are your expectations of yourself and others?

Over these 3 days, you will be gently guided to explore the nature of habit and of change - to uncover and re-imagine your own habits and expectations. And in a hidden valley that runs down to the sea on the Isle of Purbeck, you may find a new or different sense of proportion and a new appreciation of our place in the scheme of things.

NEW The Ecological Body
June 6-12, 2010
Location: Stonebarrow, Charmouth, West Dorset
Cost: £370 (seven days)

Module 4 Strata:  Autobiographical Movement (environmental and studio work)
July 24-28, 2010
Location: Wootton Fitzpaine, West Dorset
Cost: £225

In this 5-day workshop, you will be invited to choose one of the stories that you tell yourself about yourself: the sort of person you are ~ what you like and don't like ~ how lucky or unlucky you've been ~ how the rest of your life will be... then explore it through movement.

Then use the workshop to move with that story and explore it in different surroundings - both indoors and on an ancient hill fort, by the sea and in the woods.

Throughout, you will be guided as you explore new movement forms - focusing on future possibilities as well as existing beliefs and habits. It's an opportunity to get a new perspective on your own mythology and a chance to bring your movement 'up-to-date' and allow creativity to emerge from your life experiences.

Sandra Reeve: Environmental movement

Body in Movement: Back to Basics
Engage with the basics of Move into Life. By attending to your body in movement, become more alert to:
  • your movement patterns in relation to the environment
  • how thoughts, feelings, sensations and memories influence you as you move.

Learn new movement skills, start to change your habits and unlock a wider movement vocabulary. Open to all.

Cross-Currents: Movement and Communication
View and experience life from movement rather than from a fixed position. See how your own movement and that of others are interdependent. Become aware:

  • through your movement of how the dynamics in a group are constantly co-created by you and the others
  • of your own position, movement and attitude within those cross-currents.
Apply these discoveries in your work and daily life. Open to all.

Journey: Valley to Rock to Sea
Environmental Movement On stunning coastlines, travelling the same path each day, witness your changing patterns as you move in the environment. Environmental movement includes understanding active/passive movement, proportions, transition/position and point-line-angle as you interweave your moving body with the grass, the rocks, the sea. Open to all.

Strata: Autobiographical Movement
Select a theme present in your life and move with it in different environments - a hillfort, the woods, the sea. Then explore it alone and in communication with others. Finally, create a short movement score to crystallise your experience and to be witnessed by others in the group. This workshop will guide and support you through these steps from open improvisation through to the form of your choice. Movement experience necessary.

Each workshop stands alone. The cycle of workshops is also designed as a complete programme, supporting a progressive and cumulative awareness and embodiment of movement skills.

Some Comments by Participants

You should encourage people to come back again and again to your workshops – my experience and learnings get richer and deeper each time I attend.”

My first experience in this work with Sandra Reeve was such a powerful and basic lesson for me that my mind still reels from the experience. That lesson was to find the measure and rhythm of my own step… it comes to mind daily.”

As a professional dance movement therapist, it has enhanced my seeing, sensing and feeling and taught me to trust my process, to offer my interventions into the space freely without attachment. It has enriched my life – personally and professionally beyond measure.”

Moving in nature seems to awaken my senses in a way I rarely experience indoors… alive, open and responsive, I feel a deep sense of inter-being with my environment.”
